Mission Statement
The Mission of SCM Community Transportation is to empower elders, people with disabilities, and others by providing access to the people and services which nurture and enrich their lives.
Description
SCM means freedom for seniors and persons with disabilities.
Founded in 1983, SCM provides rides to senior citizens and persons with disabilities in the Greater Boston area. We provide these services in a friendly, timely, and culturally competent way - importantly with door to door service year round. We employ a highly professional, caring and courteous staff and a well-maintained, modern and comfortable fleet of paratransit vans and minibuses.
SCM’s work is central to solving the transportation dilemmas of the elderly and disabled in our neighborhoods. We provide the vital link between home and the community, allowing individuals to remain living autonomously in their own houses and apartments. Working primarily in Somerville, Cambridge and Medford (SCM), but also in surrounding communities, our driver/caregivers cheerfully convey riders to dialysis, medical appointments, adult day care, grocery shopping, meal sites, and to visit their loved ones. Thanks to community grants and donor contributions, most of the rides we provide are free of charge.
