Mission Statement

MNA is a unique land protection organization with 501(c)3 status, headquartered in Williamston, Michigan. We are different from other land trusts because we are the only organization to focus on the entire state of Michigan and and only the state of Michigan. We are also the oldest land trust in Michigan having been established in 1952. MNA is dedicated to identifying and protecting examples of Michigan's unique natural habitats for our state's rare and endangered species. In addition, MNA encourages programs of public conservation education and scientific study.

Description

Currently we have 170 sanctuaries, located in 58 counties, which protect over 10,000 acres statewide. These sanctuaries preserve grassland prairies, coastal wetlands, thriving cedar swamplands, old growth forests and many other types of valuable wilderness. Ten years ago we converted from a volunteer run group to a professionally staffed organization. This allowed us to start a sanctuary management program to protect our existing sanctuaries from invasive species and other threats.

Would you recommend Michigan Nature Association?

I volunteered at the Michigan Nature Association writing for the organization's newsletter and guidebook as well as helping contact media outlets with events. I had a great time! Everyone on the staff was friendly and helpful, and all of the other volunteers were great to spend time with. I would definitely volunteer here again!
