Mission Statement

Our Mission: To feed people today, and end hunger tomorrow by inspiring and collaborating with our community. We are a member of Feeding America's national network of over 200 food banks and food-rescue programs that distribute donated food through 50,000 charitable agencies to hungry Americans. Foodbank of Northwest Indiana distributed over 9 million meals in 2020 alone. Locally we distributed 10 million pounds of food in Lake and Porter counties in Northwest Indiana in 2020 through our own network of over 110 partnering agencies.

Description

The Food Bank of Northwest Indiana has been leading the Region’s fight against hunger since 1982 and distributes more than 9 million meals each year to hungry kids, adults and seniors across Lake and Porter counties. Each month the Food Bank serves more than 23,000 individuals through its 100+ partner agencies and programs like Mobile Marketplace, Commodity Supplemental Food Program for seniors and the BackPack program.

EACH YEAR MORE THAN 145,000 HOUSEHOLDS ARE SERVED BY AGENCIES IN LAKE AND PORTER COUNTIES.

In Northwest Indiana, nearly 100,000 individuals are food insecure, meaning they lack access to enough good, nutritious food for themselves and their families. In other words, one in six people in our community doesn’t know where their next meal will come from. Because of generous supporters, corporate partners and grant monies, the Food Bank of Northwest Indiana is able to provide hope to thousands of our hungry neighbors.

The Food Bank of Northwest Indiana is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization and a member of Feeding America, the nation’s largest domestic hunger-relief organization and a powerful network of 200 food banks across the country.
