Mission Statement

Brookstone School trains urban students for future leadership and service by providing outstanding academics and Christ-centered character education within a nurturing environment.

Closely knit relationships allow teachers to pass on the "habits of heart and mind" that equip students to play a lead role in helping to build strong communities of the future.

Description

Brookstone School, an urban school for low-income children, was founded in August of 2001 by local citizens committed to breaking the cycle of poverty and hopelessness in Charlotte's low income, urban communities. Starting with nineteen students in 2001, the school has grown in five years with a projected enrollment of 105 students for the 2006-07 school year.

Brookstone School, a local non-profit organization, is unique in Charlotte. There are no other private schools specifically "targeting" these who are children academically most at-risk due to socio-economic factors. Brookstone is, however one of several independent schools across our country with a strong commitment to disadvantaged urban children. Schools, such as Cornerstone in Detroit, are making significant strides in closing the "gap" that is prevalent in our nation's classrooms, changing lives and positively impacting the communities they serve.

Brookstone refuses to make poverty an excuse for academic failure. Brookstone School offers Charlotte's low-income urban children hope and promise through a rigorously academic, culturally rich and morally sound educational experience. Students performing below expectations are given additional practice and careful monitoring to insure that they continue to make steady progress towards proficiency.
