Mission Statement

Mission

With a network of volunteers, Meals on Wheels of Salem County, Inc. delivers nutritious meals to elderly and disabled county residents who cannot shop for or prepare meals on their own because of physical or mental disabilities.

Description

From the beginning, Meals on Wheels has provided daily care and concern for Salem County's elderly and homebound residents by providing hot medically supervised meals daily. Volunteers help do that.

Meals on Wheels offers several meal alternatives that include hot meals, cold supper meals, frozen meals, emergency meals. Holiday gift packages are presented to each client every December.

Fundraising is intergral to fufilling the program's mission. March for Meals, the Giant Pumpkin Carve are the two main fundrasing initiatives that volunteers help make successful.

For 29 years, Meals on Wheels has had a proud tradition of volunteerism. The program was founded in September 1977 by volunteers. It is serviced by a volunteer Board of Trustees and is supported by community volunteers and organizations. Meals on Wheels values the role that volunteers continue to play in the growth and success of our mission.

There is warmth and caring in Salem County. Meals on Wheels' achievements prove that. Program volunteers know that delivering meals is an opportunity to show caring in a way that truly makes a difference... one meal at a time.

Volunteers are the backbone of Meals on Wheels. Without them, Meals on Wheels would not be able to carry out the important work that it does each day in Salem County.
