Working with ACC has really been an eye-opening experience for me. I have been able to work directly with the refugee population in Denver. These people have lived through war, famine, persecution and other horrific situations and then they come to the US to find that peace. However, for many refugees, there are still hardships to endure including learning a new language, culture and skills without a solid network to support them. This is where ACC comes in—to help train, teach and act as a support system for newly arrived refugees. The people that work at ACC are so incredibly passionate about what they do, and that is evident in how hard they work. There seems to always be a need for volunteers at ACC, whether it is helping with sewing vocabulary in We Made This, a women’s empowerment sewing project, teaching job skills at Safari Thrift’s employment training program, or even working in the ACC office. Whatever your specific skill set is, there is a place for you at ACC.
