Mission Statement

Flagship Help Center ("Flagship") was established as a nonprofit organization on May 29, 2009 with an initial purpose of educating school-age youth about environmental issues, responsibility, and green jobs and career opportunities. The work of Flagship volunteers, however, quickly exposed the need for adult services connected to employment and training and adult self-sufficiency. Without a 501(c)(3), Flagship partnered with Northeast Women’s Center (NEWC) in 2009 and submitted a proposal for funding to the City and County of Denver’s Office of Economic Development to provide job readiness and life skills training, community based employment experience, and job search and placement services to adult recipients of state welfare benefits, Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF), using NEWC’s 501(c)(3) and the organization as fiscal agent for the grant.

Flagship was awarded its first 12-month grant from the Office of Economic Development in July 2009. The organization received its 501(c)(3) tax exemption letter from the Internal Revenue Service in February 2010 and began receiving additional funding as an entity independent of NEWC. Since July 2009, Flagship Help Center has expanded its services to include non-TANF customers and youth, and its annual operating budget continues to grow. Program services include job readiness and soft skills training, computer classes, GED prep, community-based employment training (CBT) experiences, job placement, job retention, and parenting classes. Services are delivered to more than 400 residents of Montbello, Green Valley Ranch and North Park Hill communities each year.
