Mission Statement

The mission of the Danevang Historical Preservation Society is to preserve historical information, artifacts and documents related to the community of Danevang, TX and the surrounding area. The goal is to assure that the heritage of the early settlers, their courage, their customs, their work ethic and their impact on the future of the community/area is retained for future generations to learn from. The Society is responsible to educate future generations about the past and its impact on the present and the future.

Description

The Society, in order to carry out its mission operates a museum that collects artifacts, documents, photographs and offers multiple programs to share the history of the community with others. The complex includes a large building designed in the shape of a Danish barn which houses the main collection and a Pioneer House, built in 1898 which contains furnishings from pre-World War I era. Tours and events provide a variety of ways individuals and groups learn the history of the community and its impact on the Gulf coast. The Society employs a part-time director who oversees the day-to-day operations of the museum but the primary work is handled by volunteers. All funding is from donations and grants. No governmental funds are provided to the organization unless they come as a result of a grant.
