Mission Statement
The TCC is a community oriented, non-profit, volunteer organization dedicated to protect, maintain, upgrade and enhance the Topanga Community House as well as the grounds entrusted to its care. The TCC is dedicated to serving Topanga by providing access and support for philanthropic, educational, and community enriching activities and services.
Description
The Topanga Community Club (TCC) was founded in 1949, originally as the Topanga Woman’s Club, to be a community center for all. The early members joined together to host card and dance parties, cake raffles, BINGO games and children’s events, and held rummage sales, sold cookbooks and even donated livestock to support their efforts. A 12-acre parcel was offered to the club in 1950 and a decade later, the shell of the house was built and the mortgage paid, all done by local volunteer labor and love.
In the years gone by, many events and gatherings were held at our Community House. The original Strawberry Festival of the 1960s began at the House, and over time, this festival evolved into Topanga Days, our annual fundraiser held on the three-day Memorial Day weekend that attracts people from all over Los Angeles.
The day to day maintenance of the Club is done not by a government entity but by volunteers. From brush clearance to cleaning the kitchen, community volunteers are responsible for the Clubhouse and grounds.
Groups of parents, first in the early days of the Club and later in the early 1990s and now in 2013, have volunteered their time and materials to build a playground on-site for the children of the community. A new generation of parents has taken on the latest rendition of the TCC playground and plans to build it in late October. They have created a committee under the umbrella of the TCC and their own website, www.topangasonlyplayground.com.
