Mission Statement

University City District builds effective partnerships to maintain a clean and safe environment and to promote, plan, and advocate for University City's diverse, urban community.

Description

A special services district, UCD' s services include: 1) Cleaning, 2) Safety, 3) Neighborhood Initiatives, and 4) Marketing. Cleaning and safety serve the communities, families and individuals with the greatest needs by providing free-of-charge cleaning and safety services 365 days a year, throughout the 2.2 square mile area of University City. UCD serves the homeless constituency through daily outreach services, providing transport to free food and shelter. Marketing is also a critical tool in UCD' s efforts to serve the communityĆ¢ s needs. UCD helps low-resource arts and culture organizations as well as small restaurants to promote their events and venues through free and low-cost marketing materials that expand the audience in front of which they would normally be able to get exposure. Neighborhood Initiatives relate to the need for continued economic growth and include UCD' s Commercial Corridor program which provides targeted assistance for growth of older, urban main streets in the community and includes upgrading the public infrastructure and providing stimulus for private investment. Each of UCD' s major programs is done in collaboration with both community-based and business stakeholders that represent the diverse constituencies of University City. This collaboration ensures that resources are used wisely and affectively and that they are truly advocating on behalf of the University City community. In addition, UCD helps to create job opportunities, protect community assets, and abate nuisance issues.
