The Baltimore Urban Leadership Foundation Inc./ The Door is a faith-based, 501(c)3 non-profit organization whose mission is to promote holistic growth and transformation of youth, families and communities through mobilization, mission-based programs, capacity-building, and resource development.

Description

The Door is an accredited member of the Leadership Foundations of America, a national faith-based organization serving the most vulnerable in cities across the nation. The Door's successes are the result of collaborations with families, schools, churches, and other community groups to change impact of socio -economic challenges for East Baltimore 's neediest children and families. Our strategic partnerships ensure a continuum of core services for our targeted communities. Each year we serve nearly 1400 individuals and 500 families through our Emergency Food Pantry and holiday food donations. Our programs are designed to improve the quality of life for community residents in the areas of education, affordable housing, economic development, and spiritual development. We place a strong emphasis on the holistic development of at-risk children and enhancing the lives of their families through long-term developmental programs. Our after school and summer camp programs (Science Enrichment and Academic Program(SEAP) for elementary ages, Leaders of Tomorrow (LOT) for teen boys ages 11-15 and Seeking Individual Self-Expression Through Spirituality ( SISTAS ) for teen girls ages 11-15) inspire students to pursue academic excellence, to build self-confidence, to develop leadership skills and to discover their unique gifts and talents. Project Lazarus trains ex-offenders and recovering individuals with hands on construction skills while turning vacant buildings into quality affordable housing for low-income families. Our year-round Emergency Food Pantry provides food for individuals and families in need. In addition, we have facilitated the start-up of two churches a "side-walk" youth ministry and the CARE community organization. With our community partners, we will continue to toward our vision of thriving communities, empowered families, and transformed lives.
