Mission Statement
Project for Neighborhood Aftercare's mission is to provide meaningful and enriching afterschool programs for Davidson County children, creating more than simple childcare. Our programs are all free of charge, neighborhood-based and academically enriched. PNA strives to create an environment that will allow each child to grow socially and academically, while fostering a sense of belonging and increased self-esteem.
Description
PNA began operation in 1997, after extensive research by Tying Nashville Together in 1996, which greatly demonstrated the need for additional aftercare centers in Davidson County. Metro originally provided funding for four PNA sites but increased the amount to cover three additional locations prior to our second year. Today, Metro funds twelve PNA sites and we also operate three centers that are federally funded by a 21 st Century Learning Center Grant (MCM), in partnership with The Department of Community Education and the YMCA.
All of our programs require a mandatory homework/tutorial hour and offer exciting enrichment activities and a nutritious snack while allowing children to thrive in a "safe haven" during the hours that are known as "Prime Time for Juvenile Crime."
Currently, PNA operates programs at the following locations:
Apollo Middle School
Bellevue Middle School
Haynes Middle School
Gra-Mar Middle School
Joelton Middle School
John Early Paideia Magnet School
Kirkpatrick Elementary School
McMurray Middle School
Sylvan Park Elementary School
Two Rivers Middle School
W.A. Bass Middle School (Club MCM)
West End Middle School (Club MCM)
Wright Middle School (Club MCM)
