Mission Statement
My Sister's Place is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization incorporated in 2008 to address the transitional needs of disadvantaged and at-risk women, 18 years of age and older, in Indianapolis, Indiana
Description
Our Urban ReCycle Program was developed after running several pilot programs which focused on the immediate needs of single parent heads of household in Marion County and discovering that if we could provide a source of employment that provided good wages and benefits, then the women we served would be able to thrive and become empowered to make better choices for their families and their futures. In order for these women to be successful they would need to find employment that could work with their limited skills, their fractured self-concepts, and their feelings of unworthiness that often came as a result of dependent relationships with partners who abused them. Our program addresses the challenges of single mothers living in poverty in Indianapolis and the surrounding counties by creating economic opportunity through employment in the fabric and textile recycling industry.
