Mission Statement

The mission of The Jed Foundation, a New York-based 501 (c) (3) charitable organization, is to reduce the suicide rate among college and university students, primarily in the United States.

The foundation focuses on understanding the underlying mental health causes of suicide and producing effective programs of prevention, information, and intervention that are used on college and university campuses. Working with leaders in higher education, government, and the scientific research community, The Jed Foundation:

  • fosters greater public awareness of the extent of college-age suicides;
  • collaborates with colleges and universities to strengthen mental health services on campus;
  • creates linkages between the academic research community that works on suicide prevention, and the higher education professionals who work directly with students; and
  • produces innovative internet-based intervention systems for college students.

Description

The goal of The Jed Foundation is to effect change on college campuses and within American society, law, and business such that suicide on college campuses is preventable and mental wellness among adolescents a top priority.

The foundation enjoys tremendous support from the communities it serves and affiliated parties. Since the date of its creation, more than 4 million people have read or seen media stories on the foundation and its work. Almost 15% of the nationâ  s colleges, representing a third of all college students, now participate in its pioneering website, Ulifelineâ ¢. Its programs are bringing critical information to students, promoting change on college campuses, and encouraging parents to become informed mental health consumers.

As the foundation grows, the number of its programs will increase and the range of its influence will expand. This is all due to our many supporters, to whom we give thanks.

The JED Foundation hired a senior clinical director who abused my daughters and encouraged domestic violence, suicide, and lifelong mental health issues. The person refused to report mandatory suspicion of child abuse, which is mandated by every state. He also collaborated for years with a colleague and student to hide the child abuse and Intimate domestic violence. When I brought this up to the JED Foundation it took them a while to respond. When the Chief, People & Equity (officer), and the Executive Assistant to the Office of the President emailed me asking for a meeting on the same day ("soon as possible"), I cleared my schedule 2 times for us to have a meeting. I saw that they opened the emails several times but they refused to respond or offer any alternative times seems very unethical and unprofessional. I do not have words to describe the hypocrisy of a charity that hires a child abuser as their senior clinical director and refuses to do any kind of investigation.
