Mission Statement
Amos House is a nonprofit social services agency that provides hospitality and direct services to the homeless and poor of Rhode Island. We work in collaboration with other agencies and groups to address issues of hunger, homelessness and poverty.
Description
The Amos House Literacy Program provides adult basic education classes in two primary areas: literacy and numeracy. These classes seek to build strong foundational skills in order to assist our students in their pursuit of a high school diploma and beyond.
We offer a beginning level literacy class, adult basic education class, and a high school diploma class (via the National External Diploma Program). Our classes run Monday through Thursday.
The Literacy Program is intimately linked with the Amos House Financial Opportunity Center, through which we seek to assist students in becoming financially stable (eg. access to public assistance, budgeting, and job training).
