Description

Massaba Rural Development Organization (MRDO) is a non-profit, non-political, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO) registered in Kenya with the goal of alleviating poverty through interventions in health ,education ,sustainable livelihoods development, support to relief and humanitarian assistance .It is Managed by the Board of Trustees of 5 led by the chairperson. The day to day activities of the organization is run by the Programme Officer who reports to the Board.
In our development programmes we aim at empowering the poor (and vulnerable groups) who constitute over 60% of Kenya's rural population through training ,education and support to income generating activities through provision of seed grants to groups, provision of tools/ vital equipments and volunteering.
MRDO is a specialized agency with the mandate to, among other things, organize for Group/individual volunteering, student exchange programs, internships, and attachments from within and outside the country. Programs are open to people from all over the world to our Kenyan country placements.
One of the most serious consequences of rural poverty in Kenya is under-capacity in provision of basic services in health, education, water, basic shelter and food. Although malaria still accounts for over 50% of total mortality and morbidity, the emergency of the AIDS pandemic has compounded the situation even further as there are now many AIDS victims among whom are orphaned children who need care and protection in orphanages.
MRDO has interest in Medical/health volunteers to be placed in the rural areas where their services are greatly and urgently required, where they will be placed at the resource-poor rural medical clinics, orphanages and to provide community healthcare services.
The partnering with Volunteer Organizations or individuals will go along way in enhancing the sourcing of medical volunteers from the Developed world to the South where their services are direly needed. Through your support and networks we hope to achieve our mission of promoting volunteering in the Health Sector in the project area.
Currently, MRDO is collaborating with a number of children's homes within the country with a view to placing foreign student interns/ medical /health volunteers for a limited period of attachment usually which is 3 - 6 weeks,1-3months ,6-12 months,1-2yrs (specific projects)in order to give the much needed services besides providing the volunteers an opportunity to learn more about African culture.
The demand for medical specialists in rural health centres/clinics is overwhelming because most local doctors prefer working in urban environment where their is a possibility of doing private practice, besides working in Government medical facilities yet the need for these services are high in rural areas.
We have a partnership with the Ministry of Health in Kisii and Nyamira districts to mobilize volunteer doctors/health personnel to over 15 needy rural health clinics and mission hospitals in such areas as; ENT, Physicians, General medicine, pediatricians, clinical medicine and pharmacy
