Mission Statement

To improve human health and well-being through animal-assisted therapy.

Description

Hand in Paw, a nationally known non-profit founded in 1996, provides professionally trained handler and animal therapy teams to help people heal physically and emotionally. These teams successfully address abuse, disabilities, illiteracy, and chronic and terminal illness in more than 50 facilities in Central Alabama. Research has proven animal-assisted therapy reduces anxiety, lowers cholesterol and blood pressure and improves heart and lung function.

Our volunteer teams make more than 700,000 beneficial contact visits through community events and participating facilities each year. At no time has Hand in Paw charged for its services. We are funded entirely through the generosity of donors, grant monies and proceeds from fundraising events.
