The Solar Decathlon is an award-winning program that challenges collegiate teams to design, build, and operate solar-powered houses that are cost-effective, energy-efficient, and attractive. The winner of the competition is the team that best blends affordability, consumer appeal, and design excellence with optimal energy production and maximum efficiency.

Description

The U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathlon is a collegiate competition made up of 10 contests that challenge student teams to design and build full-size, solar-powered houses. The winner of the competition is the team that best blends design excellence and smart energy production with innovation, market potential, and energy and water efficiency. Additionally, Solar Decathlon 2017 will feature a sustainability expo, professional development and consumer workshops, and middle-school education events.

Solar Decathlon 2017 will be located in Denver, Colorado, adjacent to the 61st & Peña station on the University of Colorado A line commuter train connecting Denver International Airport to downtown Union Station.

Student teams will provide free public tours of their solar powered, energy- and water efficient houses featuring cutting-edge technologies on these dates:

* Thursday, Oct. 5 - Monday, Oct. 9

* Thursday, Oct. 12 - Sunday, Oct. 15
