Mission Statement
St. Peter's Haven was opened in Oct. 1986 to serve the needs of intact as well as single-parent families displaced because fire, or financial hardship. Our goal is to assist homeless and at risk families to become stable and not return to homelessness. The Haven's focus is to assist families in the process of rehabilitation and to deal with the systemic issues that threaten their long-term stability through a program of intensive, personalized case management and supportive services.
Description
The Haven is a unique shelter because of the intensive casework provided for one family at a time in a comfortable, homelike setting. When a family arrives at the Haven, a detailed assessment is made of all their needs and the reasons they become homeless. Then, a plan is developed and carried out usually over a period of 3-6 months to locate permanent affordable housing and to like families to necessary services and programs and to put in place the essential resources and training that can improve skills to stabilize the family in their own home.
