Mission Statement

To preserve and promote the magnificence and history at Willamette Falls so that it will live in the minds and imaginations of people of all ages.

Description

WFHF, based in West Linn and and Oregon City and started in 1998, is almost all-volunteer historic preservation group, with paid staff of just .25 (Executive Director) and we need office management and office systems/database assistance as we establish our first actual office.

We are preserving the oral history of papermaking and mill workat Crown Zellerbach International, West Linn, in the form of two documentary movies in which millworkers tell their stories; staging an annual non-commercial history festival called Lock Fest, at Willamette Falls Locks, to make Oregon aware of the importance of this amazing transportation resource that has been operating since Jan. 1, 1873; coordinating our "Industry and Art" initiative through a fine arts event poster project and unique art events focused on the historic industrial buildings at the Locks and Falls; and creating local history curriculum for West Linn and Oregon City classrooms. We work with river-revitalization groups to help focus the public on the importance of river recreation, river tourism and commerce to a balanced transportation system at the end of the oil age.
