Helping seriously ill children and their families cope with their pain, fear and isolation through entertainment, education and family activities.

Description

The Starlight Great Escapes program gives seriously ill children and their families a few hours of escape from their illness.

The sick child gets to have fun in an environment where they are not singled out. They aren't the only child in a wheel chair or without hair or hooked up to some type of medical device.

Parents get a chance to network with other parents who are experiencing the same things they are. Parents also get a break.

Siblings get a chance to be a part of the happening. Sometimes siblings of seriously ill children feel left out. They don't at our events!

We do all the planning, take care of all the details and cover all the costs. All our families have to do is show up and have a good time.

My wife and I started volunteering with Starlight Starbright about 8 months ago. It has been a wonderful and rewarding experience. Dana runs a very flexible operation, so just about anyone and everyone can find time to help out at several events per year. This is a valuable opportunity to make a difference in kids lives who have struggled with serious illness. The events are fun, creative and exciting not for just the kids and their families but the volunteers as well. I would recommend this to anyone who is looking to add a fun and rewarding volunteer opportunity.

Starlight is a incredible organization to volunteer with. To see all of the children laughing, playing and hopefully forgetting about their illness is such a wonderful and fulfilling experience. I think it provides some much needed family time for everyone! I highly recommend for anyone wanting to give a little time to make a child smile!

To bring a smile to the face of an ill child is a huge reward and you'll get plenty while volunteering with Starlight. Smiles are everywhere at a Great Escape event. The entire family can forget their worries and relax and have a great time, and as a volunteer you are a big part of making that happen. It's such a great feeling and an even better cause. Highly recommended!
