Mission Statement

Provide active-duty servicemen and women (and their families) with free transportation, any day or night, between the Palm Springs or Ontario International Airports and the US Marine Corps Base in Twentynine Palms, CA. We won't refuse a ride to any service-member who needs one.

Description

Soldiers Organized Services (SOS) volunteers provide active-duty servicemen and women (and their families) with free transportation, any day or night, between the Palm Springs or Ontario International Airports and the US Marine Corps Base in Twentynine Palms, CA. Bus service is extremely limited and time consuming and with distances of 61 miles from Palm Springs and 112 miles from Ontario, this allows travelling service-members to avoid the $175-$200 cost of a taxi (more from Ontario). We won't refuse a ride to any service-member who needs one.

Would you recommend Soldiers Organized Services (SOS)?

I have been a driver with SOS for just under a year now. I drive two trips a week and every trip I meet servicemembers who have a great story to tell and make for an engaging and sometimes thought provoking conversation. (Of course, sometimes they just fall asleep too!) Very rewarding. Though I don't personally have a military history, my father served in WWII and my niece and her husband we recently discharged from the US Army. This is my way of letting at least some of our troops know I appreciate and respect their contribution.
