Mission Statement

In the spirit of true compassion, we seek to find innovative ways to help people overcome personal obstacles and reach their fullest potential at every human level.

Compassion Planet is nonprofit humanitarian organization committed to extending genuine love, hope and compassion by working with children, teens and under-served people in Placer County and the greater Sacramento area. We are dedicated to finding innovative ways to address people’s needs and helping individuals take transformational steps to reach their full potential.

Our mission will confront a wide range of issues of surrounding the overwhelming affects of poverty. We will, therefore, provide services to address the following needs: hunger, clothing, housing, advocacy, life skills, mentoring, and employment.

Compassion Planet started as a small food closet in 2008, called Share the Harvest. It didn’t take long, however, before the mission and scope of a local food ministry started to expand. Under the direction of Scott Flanagan-a local church planter who has headed up compassion projects and outreach programs since 1984-Share the Harvest’s leaders considered better ways to meet more than hunger needs.

Our goal was to find ways to help people achieve greater freedom and wholeness through an expanding menu of services. This is how a vision for Compassion Planet began to form. While meeting a person’s felt need is a vital compassion endeavor, we felt helping a person achieve a sustainable life is the best solution. With this in mind, it became clear that employment had to be part of our mission. Therefore, through the ultimate creation of multiple social enterprises, we have developed an entrepreneurial culture which seeks to fund our compassion projects, while employing those whom we serve.
