Mission Statement
The mission of the Champions of Youth mentoring program is to improve the lives of young people and enable them to become productive, responsible adults by creating one-to-one mentoring relationships between at-risk high school students who have demonstrated academic promise in the eighth grade and qualified adult volunteers, and providing them with the tools and support they need to graduate from high school and college.
Description
Champions of Youth is a comprehensive community mentoring program helping at-risk students break the cycle od school failure and all of the negative social issues that follow. These students may be prevented from attaining their full potential without reinforcing the value of education through positive adult leadership.
Each year twenty promising eighth graders from Atlantic City are selected to participate in the program and matched with a trained, caring volunteer from the business or professional community. They are tutored by volunteer college students and retired teachers. A case manager also assists the families in identifying critical health and social services.
