Description

Specialized Alternatives for Families & Youth (SAFY) is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) agency that provides treatment foster care in the states of Ohio, Indiana, South Carolina, Texas, Oklahoma, Nevada, Kentucky and Alabama.

SAFY was established in 1984 on the premise that each child is entitled to a caring and stable living environment. However, due to a variety of causative factors such as abuse and neglect, many victimized youth are in need of alternative living arrangements and treatment services.

SAFY was founded to provide homes for difficult to place youth in need of substitute care. In order to accomplish this goal, SAFY utilizes trained treatment and/or therapeutic foster parents to provide youth with guidance and a structured family environment.

SAFY strongly advocates a variety of in-home intervention as the initial steps in a family crisis. The agency offers an array of wraparound services and specialized programs oriented toward the goal of family unity and stability.

If out of home services are required, then alternative living situations that utilize professionally trained foster parents, experienced staff and community resources become the next appropriate step. However, this is done with the understanding that SAFY is a short-term option. The ultimate long-term goal is reunification with the youth's primary family, kinship care, adoption or emancipation.
