Mission Statement

L.A. Shanti Youth provides education, peer support, and intervention and prevention services for Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, and Questioning youth between the ages of 15 and 24.

Description

Based on the Mpowerment model, Shanti Youth operates on a peer-based network that works closely with the Shanti Youth staff to plan activities that promote healthy behaviors, leadership skills, self-acceptance, and self-expression.

The program promotes self-worth for youth by offering them both a safe space, and an opportunity for leadership roles.

Youth can become involved in a variety of ways. Those interested in leadership opportunities are welcomed to become involved with the Youth Advisory Board. As a Board Member, youth will have the opportunity to plan substance-free social events, workshops, and rallies, along with the guidance and support of the Shanti Youth staff. There are also numerous volunteer opportunities, for those that wish to be involved to a lesser degree. And, of course, all youth are welcome to attend events! Whether youth plan an event, volunteer at that event, or just come to have a good time, being part of Shanti Youth helps young people to feel good about themselves and others.
