Description

The House of Refuge Sunnyslope (HRS) is located near 7 th St. and Mountain View in North Phoenix. We are well served by the Phoenix Metro Transit System. Men come to HRS from the street, hospitals, detention centers, human service agencies, and from church referrals. The common thread of all our residents is that "they are in need".

When a man enters our program, he must obtain full-time employment, (or part-time if attending school). He also attends Bible studies, performs a daily chore, pays program fees, receives case management, and attends recovery meetings if necessary.

For the first thirty days at HRS a man resides in a dormitory. He then becomes eligible to move in to a two or three-man room. For a very reasonable fee, our men receive clean bedding, towels, a toiletry kit, clothing (as needed), and great encouragement. In addition to a clean, sober living environment, we also offer a hot meal each evening, the ability to make breakfast and a sack lunch, shower facilities, a laundry, internet access, local telephone calls, Bible studies, and a great house of men and volunteers to rely on. We will not accept anyone convicted of a violent crime like assault, sex crime, or arson.

Here is what one of our residents, Steve, has to say:
"The care, kindness, and support of the staff and volunteers is the most important to me. I was shocked how they are genuinely concerned about the welfare about the residents and the future of the people that pass through here. I was obsessed with drinking the first month I was here. It was more important to them for me to get my sobriety in order than it wasn't about any money. The other important thing to me here was that it was safe; there weren't people coming here drunk or high so it was easier to make headway, plus the cleanliness of the house. I just love this place.
I have been able to contact my daughters and establish a relationship with them again. I have found God again and my relationship gets stronger each day. I've been able to grow spiritually and emotionally abundantly at the House of Refuge."
