The Gentiva Hospice Nursing Home Volunteer would be committed to visiting with all of our patients within the assigned nursing home. The volunteer coordinator will do their best to get you as close to your home as possible. This volunteer will be a companion to our patients spending at least one hour a week with them. Activities can range from painting nails ( where appropriate), watching tv and movies, snack & chat, bird watching, reading books, listening to music, or just sitting there and being a listening ear, etc. The list goes on. We can't change the outcome but we can start where we are and change the journey!

Hello everyone! My name is Lori Gano, I am the Volunteer Coordinator/Manager of Volunteers at Gentiva Hospice here in Birmingham, Al off of Acton Road. I am looking for a detail oriented volunteer to help out in the office with getting files ready to be shipped to our off site storage as well as completing tuck in calls for our patients. Each Wednesday you will come into the office around 10am and start calling a list of patients using our script to check in on them. These phone calls are SUPER important. During the call, you will make sure they do not need any medications filled, supplies delivered, or any other needs. This is vital to help our nursing staff ensure our patients are getting everything they could possibly need. Volunteers are a second set of eyes and ears on our patients to ensure they are receiving quality care! The ideal person would need to be available every Wednesday from 10am - 2pm.

The Gentiva Hospice Companion Volunteer will be someone our patients care count on. This person will become an essential part of our patients lives. Companion Volunteers go to the homes of hospice patients to provide companionship and friendship not just to our patients but their families too. Everyone needs a hand to hold and a shoulder to cry on as well as another face to laugh with and share their stories with. Be a hero to a hospice patient who just needs a friend and apply to become a companion volunteer today! Companion Volunteers do not provide ANY hands on care to patients at all.

The Administrative Volunteer provides support to office personnel through clerical and administrative functions. An administrative volunteer may assist with answering telephones, filing, making copies, data entry or helping to create admission packets as well as other various tasks. This admin volunteer will report directly to the Volunteer Coordinator/Manager of Volunteers. The requirements are as follows: Volunteer Application Drug test & Background Check 2 Step TB Test 12 Hours of training Must be able to commit to at least 4 hours a week. Basic office experience a plus but not required.
