Mission Statement

Music enriches the life and nourishes the soul of the performer and the audience. Therefore the South Bay Music Association believes that instrumental music properly plays a vital role for the 21st century family. At its noblest, music is an enriching and nourishing bond that brings families and communities together. The Band demonstrates the power of live music by entertaining and educating families in the community. It does this by: Performing interactively in which the audience becomes educated about the music or instruments being played and creatively participates in the entertainment. Creating or sponsoring programs that educate family members on how to play, how to nurture, or how to listen to instrumental music.

Description

The South Bay Music Association (SBMA) operates a variety of programs in the El Segundo area.

  • The El Segundo Concert Band - this community band puts on several concerts throughout the year
  • Afterschool band programs at Richmond Street School Elementary, Center Street School Elementary and El Segundo Middle School
  • Summer Symposium - a specialized, annual, two-week summer camp in which students learn breathing exercises for working on their tone, rhythm exercises for playing precisely in an ensemble setting, music theory for understanding compositions, and techniques for performing solos in auditions.
  • Main sponsor of the El Segundo High School Band
