Mission Statement
"To ensure the well-being of this historic building, to provide refuge and service to the poor, and to be a resource to the community in Uptown."
Recently, in keeping with our expanded role as a center for the arts, we add, "Creativity in the service of justice and compassion."
Description
The Preston Bradley Center NFP was created by the Peoples Church of Chicago in 1987 to manage and restore its historic building. The role of PBC has expanded in recent years, as our space-sharing partners now include a theater, an arts center, a symphonic band, and an African church, as well as the Peoples Church itself, a men's shelter, and a free lunch program.
PBC is located in the Uptown neighborhood of Chicago, home of wealth and poverty, of native and immigrant, of artist and entrepreneur. PBC is finding its place in the newly designated Uptown theater district, while keeping its mission to the poor in focus. It's a challenging mix.
