Mission Statement

The Achieving Independence Center (AIC) is a "one-stop" center designed to assist young people, between the ages of 16-21, achieve goals of self-sufficiency and success. Support and practical tools are provided through programs and services such as education, job readiness training, technology, housing, life skills, healthy relationships and mentoring.

Description

PathWaysPA, one of the AIC partners, manages the Mentoring Program which serves both male and female center members. This program is designed to help adolescents who often lack strong support systems because of their involvement in the foster care system. Through this program, volunteers are recruited to act as mentors to participating members.

The mentoring program provides positive adult guided, role-modeling, self-esteem and character building programmatic modality. Mentors focus on developing supportive, one-on-one relationships with youth in an effort to assist them reach their full potential which not only includes self-sufficiency and independence, but a healthy integration of interdependence.

Ancillary to the program's previously mentioned objectives improvement in academic achievement, attitude/outlook (self-esteem) and civic connection are also paramount goals. Colloborations with various community groups and organizations occur to ensure success.
