Founded in 1949 as United Cerebral Palsy Association of Metropolitan Detroit, UCP/Detroit is one of over 100 independent, state and local non-profit affiliates. UCP/Detroit is the leading source of information on Cerebral Palsy and is a leading advocate for the rights of all people with disabilities.

Description

What Does UCP/Detroit Do?

UCP/Detroit provides information and referral services, workshops, individual and family support services (Advocacy), community inclusion, independent living supports and community education. Also, employment programs such as: Benefits, Planning, Assistance and Outreach (BPA&O) and the PEACE Project, a partnership with the Department of Labor.

More than 65% of the people served by UCP/Detroit have a disability other than Cerebral Palsy. These include disabilities that affect daily living such as: spinal cord injuries, visual impairment and learning disabilities.

UCP/Detroit is consistently recognized as one of the most efficient charitable organizations in the United States by several publications, including The Chronicle of Philanthropy. More than 85 cents of every dollar raised is used to provide programs and services for people with disabilities.
