The Wissahickon Fire Company is seeking new members to assist with fire supression and rescue services, fire police, fire prevention education, and organization management. A variety of opportunities exist to help with our public safety efforts. We offer training to those desiring firefighter and fire police certifications. We also welcome help with 'support services', which may include public relations, recruiting & retention, fundraising, clerical & administrative, bookkeeping, information systems, fleet maintenance, and buildings & grounds.
We welcome men & women, ages 16 and up. Our Junior Firefighter program provides intensive training within applicable state laws for those 16- & 17-year olds interested in becoming certified firefighters at age 18.
We welcome entry-level people, with no previous emeregency service experience, and provide the education necessary to excell in this exciting volunteer opportunity. Dedication, commitment, an interest in learning, and a desire to help your community are qualities that are vital to our service.
Everyone has their own personal reasons for wanting to become a Volunteer Firefighter. Some are driven by a longstanding family tradition, while others seek to forge their own personal tradition of community service. Some have always considered firefighters to be heroes... and want to be one themselves.
Whatever the motivation, there are many rewards - the greatest of which is a sense of belonging to a brotherhood/sisterhood that is unlike anything you've ever experienced before! The personal rewards and satisfaction received from the volunteer fire and rescue service are often beyond description - "A CALL TO DUTY", "EXCITEMENT", "ACCOMPLISHMENT", "COMPASSION", and "PRIDE" are only a few of the words our firefighters use to describe how they feel about their selfless volunteerism.
