Mission Statement

The mission of Tubby's Clubhouses is to close the technology gap in Kentucky by making computers and computing skills available to at-risk populations.

Description

Tubby's Clubhouses and the Dell TechKnow Program in Lexington is a partnership of the Tubby Smith Foundation, the Ro Parra Family Foundation, Fayette County Public Schools, Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government, the Lexington-Fayette Urban League, the Keeneland Foundation, Lexmark International, KY Trade Computers, Central Bank and Trust Company and QX.net.

Tubby's Clubhouses consists of "smart" classrooms in four Parks and Recreation Community Centers and the Urban League Technology Center, as well as various FCPS middle schools selected each semester.

The most popular program offered by Tubby's Clubhouses is the Dell TechKnow program - a 40-hour curriculum designed for middle school students to teach them about computers. The students are provided a refurbished pc, learn to disassemble their pc, install and use an operating system (Microsoft Windows), install and use Microsoft Office software and learn about the internet. At the completion of the 40 hours, the students take home the computer.

Other programs offered in Tubby's Clubhouses include computer training for adult learners, including senior citizens to provide them an opportunity to become familiar with computers and new technology or a place to access the internet and enhance their computing skills.
