Mission Statement

Ripe Time (founded in 2000) develops and presents new ensemble-based performance works infused with rich language, visual power and physical rigor. We present collaboratively created dance-theatre based on novels, stories, classic plays and films. Our multi-disciplinary work tells diverse stories of women’s lives, Illuminating how power, individual will and ambition impact the female experience.

Description

The company devotes two to three years to the development of each new theatre work, mounting research and development workshops, residencies, and staged workshops in preparation for the full production. Our work has been presented at the Baruch Performing Arts Center, 3LD Art & Technology Center, the Ohio Theatre, PS 122, the Clark Studio at Lincoln Center and La MaMa ETC. the Clark Studio at Lincoln Center, The Ice Factory, Voice and Vision, the Ko Festival, among others. Our work has been called "Visually stunning" (Time Out New York); "mesmerizing" (New York Times); and "a dazzling achievement" (Variety).

Ripe Time also mounts SHAPE SHIFTING, a free public salon focused on the art and craft of adaptation. Past salons have been co-produced with New Dramatists, New York Theatre Workshop and the JCC. SHAPE SHIFTING has included major voices in the American theatre such as Melissa James Gibson, Daniel Alexander Jones, Ellen McLaughlin, Taylor Mac and Caridad Svich.
