The Alzheimer's Associations seeks support group facilitators and co-facilitator, to work with a group of Alzheimer's caregivers. Support Group Facilitators create a safe, open environment where people share their feelings, thoughts and experiences in a combined effort to better cope with and manage the shared problems of dementia. The goal of Alzheimer's Association support groups is to provide emotional, social and/or educational support to group members. If you enjoy: working with families and seniors are patient, kind, and comforting enjoy giving back and supporting your community This is a great opportunity for you! Key responsibilities include: Follow expectations and recommendations of the Caregiver Support Group Facilitator Manual, including participation in initial & ongoing training and submission of all required documentation to Chapter. Set up, arrange and prepare the room before and after each group. Coordinate any speakers/presenters with local chapter staff. Encourage participants to provide assistance and emotional support to one another. Present pertinent Association materials and information to group members. Connect members of the community with additional Association services by proactively making referrals to Alzheimer's Association programs & free 24/7 Helpline. As a volunteer educator and a member of the Alzheimer's Association Speaker's Bureau, this role actively engages the community in knowing about the warning signs of Alzheimer's, educates on Healthy Living, teaches communication skills for families and loved ones caring for a dementia diagnosed individual, and much more! We provide all tools and training materials for you to be confident in your ability to pass along this information to your audience. Education workshops can be hosted throughout the Las Vegas Valley. Primary Skills Requested: Enjoy working with the community at large Enjoy public speaking Helpful to know how to use Powerpoint and AV equipment (laptop, projector, speakers, flash drive, etc.) Passion for educating and raising awareness about Alzheimer's Disease Commitment to volunteer opportunity Bilingual a PLUS Benefits to Volunteer: Perfect your public speaking ability and technique. Virtual Opportunity
Alzheimer's Association Community Educators are volunteer public speakers who provide Alzheimer's Association education programs to community audiences. This is a Virtual role making education presentations through ZOOM. While returning to in-person presentations we will continue presenting virtual educations to offer more options. We will provide training, information and electronic or printed materials to assist in your efforts. Orientation includes online learning, self-study and shadowing. Some materials are available in multiple languages. Key Activities: Deliver prepared Alzheimer's Association evidence-based consumer education programs on a variety of care and support topics. Collaborate with local Association Staff to expand programs and connections with community partners. Serve as a presenter for chapter-scheduled education programs and conferences. Qualifications: Knowledge and comfort with having ZOOM conversations. Computer equipment Comfortable making a presentation virtually to a group of people, answering questions, sharing materials, completing necessary paperwork-attendance. Passionate about the Alzheimer's Association mission. Work closely with Staff, other Volunteers, and Community Partners. Patience, allowing time for questions, allowing attendees the chance to talk if needed. Commitment Expectations: All program volunteers participate in initial training and ongoing education and must comply with Alzheimer's Association volunteer policy and procedures. A year commitment making a minimum of 12 presentations. We can accommodate your schedule and availability. Benefits; Perfect your public speaking ability while service the community.
