Description
GKWC members volunteer tens of thousands of hours and raise hundreds of thousands of dollars to further the welfare of the local community. Service projects range from the Reading Buddies program at Willis Lane Elementary School, the Adopt-a-Street program in Keller, sponsoring events at Heritage House and the Keller Senior Center, canned food drives for local charities, book drives for the USO, volunteering at Keller Fest and other city-related events, summer reading programs at the Keller Library, annual holiday decorating at Keller’s police department, fire stations, library and much more. In 2009, GKWC was voted Best Place to Volunteer by the Keller Citizen, and became a certifying organization for the U.S. President’s Volunteer Service Awards.
Raising money is a valued way GKWC exercises its philanthropic spirit. Through the annual Garden of Roses Fashion Show, members raise monies for the benefit of the Greater Keller Women’s Club Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. The Foundation awards grants and scholarships to other qualified non-profit organizations and students in the community. Beneficiaries from previous years have included Artsnet, Battered Women’s Foundation, Christ’s Haven for Children, Community Enrichment Center, Community Storehouse, Metroport Meals on Wheels, Rocky Top Therapy Center, Safe Haven, Summer Santa, and many others. To date, more than $650,000 has been given to support the youth, elderly and underprivileged citizens in the greater Keller area and Northeast Tarrant County.
