Mission Statement

The mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to prepare young people to make ethical choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law.

Scout Oath: On my honor I will do my best to do my duty to God and my Country and to obey the Scout Law; to help other people at all times; to keep myself physically stong, mentally awake, and morally straight.

Scout Law: A Scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent.

Description

Scouting is divided into three main areas according to age and activity level. Cub Scouting is for boys age 7-10, Boy Scouts is for boys age 11-18, and Venturing is for boys and girls age 14-21. Adult volunteers work with the youth in each of the program areas according to a suggested guidebook complete with age appropriate activites. The program for Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts is structured to include advancement (skills development) and outdoor programs.

Adults serve as guides and mentors for the youth. Camping is especially important in the delivery of the program for Boy Scouts and Venturing.

Mentoring opportunities also exist for the Learning for Life Program, a career exploration course delivered in local schools by adult volunteers representing career options.
