"Help In A Time of Crisis"

Description

Another Way is a volunteer organization made up of employees of Inland Regional Center, the primary provider of services for children and adults with developmental disabilities and their families in Riverside and San Bernardino counties. Inland Regional Center is one of 21 regional centers in California created to provide entitlement programs for children and adults with mental retardation, cerebral palsy, epilepsy and autism.

Another Way formed 26 years ago when a small group of IRC employees came together to look for ways to help their developmentally disabled clients and families with basic emergency needs that could not be met by another source. The IRC case workers were frustrated that many of their clients and families were struggling to pay for basic needs, such as food, clothing, utilities and rent, with no resources to help fill this gap. InlandRegionalCenteris limited in how the center may use state money for this population. This small group of employee volunteers called themselves "Another Way" and began giving money out of their own paychecks to help families with these emergency costs and other unmet needs.
