Mission Statement

Mercy Education Project provides academic services, life skills education and selected career development to help girls and women achieve educational success and eventual self-sufficiency. We welcome women and girls of diverse ethnic, racial, and religious backgrounds who are ready to take a new step toward academic success and a brighter future.

During the school year Mercy Education Project provides on-one remedial tutoring to at-risk girls in 2nd through 12th grades from southwest Detroit. We also offer one-on-one homework-help for ninth and tenth grade girls who were formerly in our program to assist with their transition to high school. Our Emerging Leaders summer program for middle school girls has a focus on college and career awareness.

We also provide adult basic education, individualized GED preparation, and job skills training to women from low-income households in Detroit and nearby communities. Our"Open Doors" program offers life skills to returning female citizens.

All programs are designed to help women and girls overcome the challenges and stigma of earlier academic failure as they work toward short and long-term goals

I volunteered with the adult program for about a year and found it to be an amazing organization that is really helping the community. The staff/organizers were really grateful to their volunteers and just really kind people who want to make a difference.
