Genesis' mission is built around its founders' core desire to express gratitude to the communities that allowed them to achieve success.
The Genesis Foundation strives to 'give back' to Colombia and the United States by creating the conditions necessary for any child to have a chance at a successful future.
By funding local projects in the areas of health and education -which we consider pillars of economic and social progress- Genesis seeks to provide underserved children with the basic building blocks for their development.
In order to benefit not only our country of origin, but also those other communities that have held out their hand to us, we reach out to children in the United States by funding education and health projects in the New York Metropolitan Area, Washington DC and Southern Florida.
Our wish is that beneficiaries of our grant-making can expand the effect of our donations as they contribute, in their turn, to the future well-being of their communities.
The Genesis Foundation was formed by a group of Colombian and American entrepreneurs, industrialists, and financial investors who always held tight to their belief of giving back to the various communities in which they had lived and worked, and which had played a role in their professional success.
The first step toward the formation of Genesis took place in 1998, with the creation of an endowment. Three years later, in 2001, the Genesis Foundation was incorporated in Florida as a non-profit private foundation under section 501(c)(3) of the IRS Tax Revenue Code.
Since then, Genesis has been actively funding projects that meet its selection criteria and have successfully completed a stringent review and approval process. (click here to learn more about our selection criteria and process). We strive to allocate eighty percent of our grants to initiatives based in Colombia, with the remainder split between Southern Florida, Washington DC and the New York Metropolitan Area.
Our Board of Directors and Board of Advisors are composed of Colombian and American philanthropists who have worked in business together for over 30 years as well as members of their families. (For a list of our board members, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.)
To achieve its philanthropic mission, Genesis relies on recurrent donations from its founders and board members, as well as on funds from third parties identifying with its goal. All operational expenses are underwritten by the founders, so all donations from third parties are used in their entirety to fund projects we support.
We also promote direct funding of the projects by third parties (â  co-funding initiativesâ  ) and will provide all relevant information on the particular project(s).
