Mission Statement

Cheshire Home is a place of shelter physically, and of encouragement spiritually; a place in which the residents can acquire a sense of belonging and of ownership by contributing in any way within their capabilities to its functioning and development; a place to share with others, and from which to help others less fortunate; a place in which to gain confidence and develop independence and interests; a place of hopeful endeavor and not passive disinterest.

Description

Cheshire Home is a residential community where mentally alert, physically disabled young adults are given the chance to reach their greatest potential. Thirty-five young people, approximately between the ages of eighteen and fifty-five reside at Cheshire Home in Florham Park. Some of our residents were disabled by spinal cord injuries suffered from diving, driving, industrial, or other types of accidents. Others have congenital problems such as cerebral palsy or Spina Bifida.

Our residents are referred to us by other long-term care facilities. These are often geriatric nursing homes, rehabilitation hospitals, or acute care centers. There is no discrimination based on sex, creed, or race.
