Mission Statement

All volunteer postings on this site are for Carpets for Communities, a project affiliated with the Millennium World Peace Summit.

Carpets for Communities' mission is to make education possible for vulnerable Cambodian children by empowering their mothers with secure incomes through the production and sale of high-quality, one-of-a-kind, hand-hooked carpets.

Description

Carpets for Communities (CfC) is an innovative income-generation and educational support project in Poi Pet, Cambodia that empowers families to break the cycle of poverty. We target families with children working on the Thai-Cambodian border, a hotbed for child-trafficking and sexual exploitation. We teach women of the families how to hand-hook carpets, provide them with carpet-making equipment and supplies, and offer a secure sales channel for their finished products. The living wages that the women earn making carpets empowers them to relieve their children of dangerous work on the border and send them to school.
