Description
The Shea Center provides therapeutic equestrian activities for perople with disabilities from age two and older. We have two distinct services we provide - hippotherapy, therapy using the horse as the primary mode for physical, occupational or speech therapy, and sport therapeutic riding which is a nonmedical service, but provides tremendous benefit. Shea Center clients have over 40 different disabilities in our 239 weekly clients, but primarily fall into physical or cognitive disabilities.
Benefits that clients see from work at the Shea Center include taking first independent steps, first words spoken, a first hug for parents.
Riding a horse moves the human body like it's walking. We use this motion to create successes for our clients through a careful and methodical approach. The Shea Center is also a training center for therapeutic equestrian education worldwide. People from 15 countries and every state in the U.S. have participated in our certification and education programs.
