Mission Statement

Through collaboration with the American Museum of Natural History, the mission of the Museum of Prairiefire is to create a place to understand and celebrate our region’s natural history and culture. We will engage visitors and area students with exciting exhibitions, meaningful programming, and significant educational opportunities.

Description

The Museum of Prairiefire is a new faciilty being built in Overalnd Park KS that will open in April 2014. Vistors can sxperience and learn from a continuous series of innovative and original exhibitions developed by the 143 year-old American Museum of Natural History, one of the world’s pre-eminent scientific and cultural institutions. A unique collaboration found only at the Museum of Prairiefire.

Imagine natural history coming alive in the most fascinating ways, merging technology, interactive experience, visual, audio and social learning.

Astrophysics, earth science, biodiversity, and human biology - displaying objects from the American Museum of Natural History collections. Middle school and high school students playing an active role in the Museum’s design, programming and operation.

Children eagerly engaging in the magic of science and natural history in the Discovery Room. The Museum providing significant STEM resources to area students and educators.

Dedicated to helping the region grow, children learn, people engage in their community, visitors linger and return, and families celebrate together.
