Mission Statement
Family CT’s mission is to prevent abuse, neglect and victimization. Our goals are to strengthen and preserve vulnerable families, empower youth and disenfranchised populations and improve child health and developmental outcomes.
Description
Family CT has been a leader in developing innovative home-based interventions for at-risk families since its inception in 1977. The mission is to prevent abuse, neglect and victimization across the life span and to serve those affected by providing home visiting and outreach, parenting education, family strengthening activities, youth empowerment, counseling and advocacy to children and adults.
Family CT’s bilingual programs, provided at no cost to families, reach over 2,000 children, youth, families and adults annually living in the 20 towns in the Greater New Haven area. Family CT programs reach the area’s most needy children and families, those who live in impoverished neighborhoods, face unemployment, social and cultural barriers, are socially isolated, lack adequate housing, do not own a car and may not have the resources to meet their own and their children’s basic needs. Its experienced, trained professional and paraprofessional staff members offer the following services: evidence-based parenting education, primary prevention direct services for at-risk first-time parents, care coordination to children with special health care needs, domestic violence counseling and advocacy, safety planning, crisis intervention, educational and empowerment groups, and in-school youth leadership development and service learning initiatives. Family CT provides transportation to its services and families can access its food and diaper bank and an emergency fund to help cover critical expenses.
