"One Person, One Dog, Partners In Life."

Description

Canine Partners of the Rockies, Inc. (CaPR), is a Colorado non-profit organization founded in 2002 to train and provide highly skilled service dogs for people with disabilities other than blindness, such as multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injury, cerebral palsy, arthritis, muscular dystrophy, and spinal bifida. The program uses only humane training methods, places fully trained dogs in the Rocky Mountain region, and provides ongoing support for the canine-human partnerships.

After a rigorous training process of up to two years, service dogs can perform everyday tasks such as retrieving objects, opening and closing doors, turning lights on and off, pushing elevator buttons, providing balance support, or helping to pull a wheelchair.

CaPRâ s founding members have more than 30 years of combined experience raising, training, and placing service dogs. The organization finds potential service dogs from generous breeders and selects gifted puppies that display a gentle temperament, excellent health, aptitude, and ambition to work.

Because the number of Colorado residents with disabilities who can benefit from service dog partnerships greatly exceeds the number of dogs available, CaPR is focused on raising funds to help the organization train more dogs. CaPR relies on fundraising events, grants, businesses, and individuals to support its programs. All donations to the program go directly toward training and partnership placement of service dogs.
