Mission Statement
The Special Olympics mission is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, expereince joy and participate in a sharing of gifts. skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the commuinity.
Description
The first Special Olympcis games were born right here in Chicago in 1968 and were held at Soldier Field. 45 years later The Special Olympics continues to be one of the greatest exports Chicago has given the world. In 170 countries, with more than three million Special athletes the world over, the Special Olympics continues to be a leader in encouraging those with special needs.
