Mission Statement

The mission of Los Angeles Opportunities Industrialization Center (OIC) is to continue being a leader in providing quality education, training, employment, healthcare and housing services to economically disadvantaged people of all races and backgrounds enabling them to become self-sufficient and more fulfilled members of the American society.

Description

In our current "Out of School" program, using an open entry/open exit system, participants spend an average 12 months in the program, including 9 months to complete their basic education, GED or job skills training. This program model relies on a synergistic approach to workforce success in the following components:

  • Education: Basic Education/GED training, tutoring, computer training, life skills and financial literacy. We will also refer clients to LAUSD adult schools.
  • Case Management: A full time social worker/case manger supports the emotional well being of the participants from intake through employment. Case Management is pivotal to the student's success, first addressing barriers to education and employment and keeping him/her on track to completion.
  • Vocational Training: Students can choose from PC Service & Maintenance, Office Software Specialist, Automotive Technology, Culinary Arts or Retail Sales and be ready for employment in approximately three to six months based on their learning pace. Other courses are available through our many community partnerships offering various career paths.
  • Job Development: Employee readiness training is under the direct supervision of our in-house job developer with assistance from our workforce partners, the local One Stop Work Source Centers throughout LA County. Once employed there is follow up every 30 days with the employer and employee to measure success and determine if further case management is needed to mitigate any employment issues.
