Mission Statement

OUR MISSION:

The Othello Park Alliance works to assure that Othello Park's beauty and open space are retained, enhanced, and integrated into a vibrant, multi-cultural, pedestrian-friendly Othello Town Center and residential community.

Description

Our Values

The Othello Park Alliance is committed to promoting the attractive open space of Othello Park in an action oriented, collaborative way. We pride ourselves on positive accomplishments for the park and the diverse surrounding community, and thrive on the satisfaction and fun of achievements built through great teamwork.

Challenge

The Othello Park Alliance wants to use the park as a tool to promote business prosperity, community involvement, and safety in a new pedestrian oriented environment. We have initiated and helped produce summer concerts and festivals in Othello Park over the past several years with assistance from Seattle Neighborhood Group and Seattle Parks and Recreation. We continually seek to expand our efforts and further our mission.

Our Current Project:

The Othello Park International Music and Art Festival has become an eagerly awaited annual event in Othello Park. This year’s Festival will be held on August 18, and comprises the second day of the Rainier Valley Culture Fest Weekend. The Festival brings music representing many of the cultures who call the Rainier Valley home, a very popular Art Creation Station, booths from local businesses and organizations, great food, and, for the second year, Stanley the camel and his friends. The first Festival, in 2009, brought 600 people to the Park. 1,500 came to the 2011 Festival and we expect our popularity to continue to grow. We are pleased to have the support of the new Station at Othello Park as our 2012 Stage Sponsor as well as counting other businesses, a number of non-profit organizations, and the City of Seattle Department of Neighborhoods among our sponsors.
